Cape Cod Style

When real estate agents talk about Cape Cod style, they often refer to a wood-frame house with a steep roof with multiple windows projecting from it. Generally, the house is usually a story and a half to two stories high. The style originated in the Cape Cod area of Massachusetts in the 17th and 18th centuries. The design developed as residents built homes to withstand the weather typical of New England. The exterior of a Cape Cod home often has simple wood siding or shingles. Quite often, the front of the home is symmetrical with the door centered and one or two windows spaced evenly on either side. Shutters are a common detail found around all front facing windows. Inside the home, white wood trim and clean detailing are hallmarks of this style of home.
