The term realtist refers to a real estate agent or broker who is a member of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers. The National Association of Real Estate Brokers is a mainly minority real estate organization. Organized when minorities were not welcome in most national real estate organizations, this group has played and continues to play an active role in supporting equal housing opportunities regardless of color, creed, or race. Today their role includes providing education and training to members. They have an active legislative group to lobby on various real estate issues related to minorities around the country. The term realist was a choice made to distinguish minority real estate professionals from their white counterparts. That term is in use today with many minority owned real estate companies as well as regional real estate organizations focused on minority professionals.
