A Realtor is a real estate agent who is a member of The National Association of Realtors. Only members are permitted to refer to themselves as Realtors. The benefit of working with a Realtor is that there is a strict code of ethics and acceptable practices that Realtors are bound to uphold. This is not always the case with real estate agents. A Realtor is a professional who works for buyers and sellers in order to assist in the sale of a property. Realtors can also be brokers and other real estate professionals. One of the benefits for consumers who choose to work with a Realtor is access to the multiple list service (MLS), which provides information about properties listed by multiple real estate companies. A real estate agent who is not a broker may or may not have access to MLS listing services.
