Quite often, people planning on building a custom building will work with an architect to come up with the plans before they contract with a custom builder. Many custom builders work with architectural firms to create plans ideal for a parcel of land. The land owners contract with the custom builder to complete the work, usually from land preparation through final finishes on the building. This is in contrast with builders who offer set plans from which their clients choose. That type of situation is common in many builder-developed subdivisions.
