When a building is constructed, it must be done so according to several specifications. The contractor may specify that only materials of a certain quality are used to construct the building. The person moving into the property may specify that there be at least one acre of open space for the animals to play in. The kitchen counters may have to be made of granite and nothing else. Municipalities will have construction and building standards as well. There may need to be at least three fire exits or escapes on a new city building. Fire doors may need to be installed in all college campuses. There may be an occupancy limit specified for each building. The fire marshal may determine that only 100 people may be in a night club at one time. Exceeding that capacity may be a public safety hazard if a fire or other emergency situation occurred.
